The peacock, also known as the peafowl, is a unique species of bird belonging to the Gruiformes family. They are widely distributed throughout the world, from Africa, Asia, Europe to America. They are medium-sized birds, typically weighing around 2-4kg, with a length of 70 to 120cm. The peacock’s feathers are incredibly beautiful, with a variety of colors and patterns, especially their long and wide tail feathers that are very impressive.
Peafowl prefer to live in areas with ponds, rivers, lakes, and swamps, and they are excellent water racers. They often use their long legs to stir up fish, insects, snails, and other aquatic creatures, and then they catch their prey with their sharp beaks.
In addition to their excellent hunting abilities, peafowl are known for their ability to form loyal pairs and almost always live together for life. They often build their nests on trees or cliffs and use dry leaves and grass to line them. The chicks hatch after about 28-30 days and are nurtured by both parents throughout their growth.
With their incredible beauty and unique characteristics, peafowl are often used in art, poetry, and folklore. However, this species is also facing many threats due to habitat loss and hunting. Therefore, protecting and conserving peafowl has become a pressing issue.
