Meet the Russian version of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
Russian oligarchs who have not “mysteriously” fallen to their deaths will receive good news, as Aurus has introduced the new Komendant.
Designed to provide “impeccable comfort on any journey”, the Komendant is an ultra-luxury SUV in the same vein as the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
The similarities with the latter are unmistakable, as the Komendant has a “manly and monumental” exterior with a huge 22-slat grille. It is flanked by LED headlights and sizeable air intakes.
Further back we can see double-glazed windows, a marked shoulder line and 20, 21 or 22-inch wheels. Other highlights include square exhaust tips, a power tailgate, and a heated windshield.
In terms of size, the Komendant measures 211.8 inches (5,380 mm) long, 78.9 inches (2,004 mm) wide and 71.7 inches (1,820 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 122 inches (3100 mm). To put those numbers in perspective, the model is 1.5 inches (39 mm) longer than the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but has a 7.7 inches (195 mm) shorter wheelbase.
Upon entering the cabin, the Olegs of the world will find an elegant interior with Nappa leather upholstery, metallic accents and Popular Black, Silver Birch Burl or Dark Brown Ash wood trim.
They are joined by a digital instrument cluster, a widescreen infotainment system and an analogue clock. Buyers will also find a four-zone climate control system, ambient lighting, heated/cooled cupholders, and front/rear wireless chargers for smartphones.
Given its status as an ultra-luxury SUV, it has two individual rear seats that have heating, ventilation and massage functions. They are separated by a wide center console that has folding tables and a “minibar” with a refrigerator. The model also features a dual-screen rear entertainment system and what appear to be rear vanity mirrors.
Aurus noted that customers can personalize their vehicle, as the company offers custom paint jobs, sill plate engraving and special headrest embroidery. Buyers can also request special veneers and unique moldings.
Power is provided by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo hybrid V8 engine that produces 590 hp (440 kW / 598 PS) and 649 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system. This configuration allows the 3,235 kg (7,132 lb) Komendant to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 6.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph). Despite its hybrid powertrain, the SUV is a thirsty Russian, boasting a combined fuel consumption of 18.5 l/100 km (12.7 mpg US).
Rounding out the highlights is an adaptive air suspension that provides up to 10.2 inches (260 mm) of ground clearance. The model also has a head-up display, a surround-view camera system and advanced driver assistance systems.
The price reportedly starts at 33.7 million rubles, which is equivalent to $580,784 (£515,205 / €592,484). That’s pretty considerable considering the Cullinan costs around $350,000 in the United States.
