Meagan and her team of rescuers from Puppy Kitty NYCity (a NYC-based animal rescue) responded to a request for a very sick grey cat.
When they arrived at the location, they noticed another kitty needing rescue. An orange and white tabby who was 10+ years old and deaf, appeared semi-friendly towards people.
“We wanted to get him off the street. He lived outside for ten years. It’s time for him to retire. He doesn’t deserve to spend his senior years struggling,” Meagan shared.
With the help of a humane trap, they safely got the cat and brought him indoors at last.
Despite their best efforts, the sickly grey cat sadly succumbed to his illness. His friend, the orange and white cat, started to adjust to the new environment, where food was within reach and love was bountiful.
They lovingly named him Creamsicle. He was a bit timid at first, but once they found his favorite treat, it was a game changer.
Creamsicle wolfed down all the treats and then a full plate of food, as if there was no tomorrow. He began to allow petting and ear scritches, and his walls came falling down.
The sweet boy got a complete medical, and in no time, his playful, spry spirit emerged.
With hearty meals several times a day and plenty of petting from his people, Creamsicle grew quite fond of the cushy indoor life.
When he no longer had to worry about food and shelter, all he wanted to do was play.
Creamsicle was presented a fuzzy toy one day, and he was obsessed and began hauling all the toys he could scour.
He quickly discovered the “treasure trove” where the toys are stowed away, and attempted to fish them out with his nimble front limbs.
Creamsicle the detective found his “prizes” stashed away in the big bin.
The senior cat with a crinkle ear is still a kitten at heart. He has brought so much joy and amusement to everyone at the rescue with his inquisitive and forever-young personality.
When he locks his eyes onto a tweety toy, he will swipe at it with such speed that it rivals a youngling.
Creamsicle likes to gather his prizes and carefully inspect them, before he continues to play to his heart’s content.
When he tires out, he will curl up in his bed double-stacked with soft blankets and snooze for hours on end. Creamsicle enjoys the company of volunteers and visitors and is so happy to be able to revel in his life without a care in the world.
“He deserves the lap of luxury after a long street life.”
“Creamsicle has had a long, hard life, but you would never know it, because he is the sweetest gentleman. He is ready for the warmth of a couch. He loves food and treats. He rocks his signature crinkle ear in style.”
