These electric hypercars offer performance we’re only used to seeing in sci-fi movies.
Hypercars are a special breed of cars that pushes the boundaries to an extreme level when it comes to performance. These cars push out more than 800 hp on an average and are borderline race cars. Some of the recent hypercars are the Aston Martin Valkyrie, Bugatti Divo, AMG Project One and the Pagani Huayra R. The hypercars are the highest order of automobiles and there is nothing above and beyond them.
But we are on the cusp of witnessing a complete shift from ICE engined cars to fully electric cars. The same story can also be witnessed with the hypercars. Earlier hypercars used to be powered solely by an internal combustion engine, and the current crop of hypercars heavily rely upon hybrid assistance for that extra punch. However, the future is not going to be the same. As we all know, electric cars are taking over the scene and the future of hypercars is also electric. The electric hypercars are so rapid that they are redefining the whole hypercar game. To further understand what lies ahead, here 10 electric hypercars that are changing the game.
10 Tesla RoadsterCinco Dias – El Pais
The Tesla Roadster is a controversial product. It’s been ages since the hypercar was announced and there has been no news about it or its impending launch. However, what Tesla claims for the Roadster is out of this world. 0-62mph comes up in just 2.1 seconds, which is incredibly fast. Tesla also claims that the Roadster can reach speeds of up to 248mph. The Tesla also offers a range of over 620 miles. Again, these are all impressive figures on paper, and will remain purely hypothetical until Tesla prove their claims or back it up with some real-world tests.
9 Drako GTEDrako Motors
The Drako GTE is a rather smart-looking EV from California. What makes the Drako GTE special is the 4-seater setup, making it the only 4-seater hypercar on this list. As far as numbers go, the GTE develops 1,200hp and 6,500 lb-ft of torque and features a 90 kWh, floor-mounted battery pack. The hypercar is touted to reach a top-speed of 206mph, and it features 4 motors for each wheel that are also connected to independent direct-drive transmissions. Think of the Drako GTE as a Porsche Taycan turned up to 11. An actual 4s-eater hypercar that is faster than all the ICE hypercars.
8 Ariel P40via instagram
British carmaker Ariel is known for the Atom and the Nomad. The company based out of Somerset, England, was founded by a Coventry University student named Niki Smart. The latest car from the brand is an all-electric hypercar with some interesting specs and design language. Codenamed the P40, this 1180 hp electric car will have a 0-100 mph sprint time of 3.8 seconds. Ariel wants the P40 to be the quickest accelerating car in the world. Ariel also says the P40 will reach 60mph in 7.8 seconds, with a top-speed of 160 mph. Details are scarce, but it is also expected to feature a suction-like fan for ground effect.
7 Deus VayanneVia New Atlas
For those of you wondering, Deus is a budding hypercar brand based out of Vienna, Austria. The Vayanne actually looks pretty interesting thanks to Italdesign, Giorgetto Giugiaro’s design studio. Deus says the Vayanne can develop 2200 hp along with a peak torque of 1475 lb-ft with the help of four motors on each wheel. The company also claims it can reach 62 mph in just 1.99 seconds, and goes on to a top speed of 248 mph. The Deus Vayanne will be limited to 99 units, and the company expects to officially launch the hypercar in 2025.
6 Nio EP9Via NIO NextEV
From China comes the Nio electric Performance 9 hypercar. It uses a water-cooled battery pack that powers 4 motors, each producing around 340 hp. With simple mathematics, we can figure out that the EP9 produces a strong 1,350 hp, and it will also come with an impressive range of over 265 miles. The Nio EP9’s party trick is its curb weight of 3800 lbs, this translates to a zero to 60 mph time of 2.7 seconds, a top speed of more than 220 mph, and a Nürburgring lap time of 6:45.
5 Aspark OwlVia-Archyde
The Aspark Owl is a Japanese all-electric hypercar. The brand was established in 2018 and the Owl is their first hypercar. The car features a 69 kWh lithium-ion battery made by Daneeca in the UK. And this battery can surprisingly provide a range of 285 miles, despite the Owl accelerating to 62mph in under 2 seconds, developing 1,984 hp and reaching a top-speed of 249 mph. Well, this is one JDM car that you can buy in America, but hurry up because only 50 units will be made.
4 Pininfarina BattistaVia: Pininfarina
Pininfarina is a huge name in the car industry, and so the Battista has some big shoes to fill. This is the fastest accelerating hypercar today, with a 0-62mph sprint time of just 1.79 seconds. There will only be 150 units made, and each with a price tag of $2.25 million. For the specifics, the Battista uses a 120 kWh battery pack that juices up 4 motors which deliver a total of 1,900 hp and 1,725 lb-ft of twist. All this lunacy is combined with a range of 300 miles and comes in a beautiful looking body complete with an exquisite cabin that features cutting edge tech. Oh, and did we mention that the Pininfarina Battista did the quarter mile in a casual 8.55 seconds?
3 Lotus Evijavia Lotus
Lotus creating an all-electric hypercar was not a well-received news until everyone saw the Evija’s spec sheet. So there will be four electric motors, developing 1970hp with 0-62mph dealt with in under 3 seconds, and a top-speed of 200mph. 0-186mph comes up in 9 seconds and the Evija is not about the outright numbers but more about how light it is in contrast to other electric hypercars. The Evija tips the scales at 3,700 lbs, which is a great feat for an all-electric hypercar. Lotus wants the to be focus on the handling and hence the Evija is on a different level than other hypercars that chase straight line speed.
2 Rimac NeveraRimac
Coming all the way from Croatia, the Rimac Nevera is one of the most highly anticipated and talked about hypercars of recent times. The Nevera uses a carbon fiber chassis and a 117 kWh battery pack that powers four electic motors which combined develop a whopping 1,813hp. The Nevera can outrun pretty much anything on the road with a 0-60mph time of 1.85 seconds and a top-speed of 258mph. The Nevera is more a GT hypercar than a track-spec hypercar as it also delivers an EPA-estimated range of 205 miles.
1 McMurtry SpéirlingVia: YouTube via Hagerty
The McMurtry Spéirling has a curb weight of just 2,200 lbs. There are two rear-mounted motors that develop 1000 hp, and it also uses two fans to increase the down force. A result of all this craziness is a 0-60 mph time of 1.4 seconds, which is a world record for the fastest accelerating car. Honestly, the McMurtry Spéirling makes the other hypercars look boring, and we don’t think anyone is prepared for this level of performance. The McMurtry Spéirling also has a range of 300 miles!
